As a general rule, you should not wash your eyes while wearing contact lenses. Small germs are present in water (tap) and can stick onto your lenses leading to infections. Moreover, rubbing your eye creates a potential interference with the positioning of lens which would result in pain and worse also damage the lenses.

According to doctors, do not rub contact lenses while removing them from the eye. Rubbing can knock the lenses loose or it can scratch your eyes, resulting in irritation and possible harm. But you can rinse your face with water while having a contact lens. One point to remember though is not so splash the water directly into your eyes, that can introduce new contaminants on ur lenses. Alternatively, splash some water on your face very gently with closed eyes or clean the necessary parts and let them not reach directly to your lenses.
If you need to really get it clean, you should remove your contacts prior so as not risk contamination or discomfort.
Showering while wearing your contact lenses presents a higher chance of contamination and discomfort. Water direct from the shower can have bacteria and other germs that may contaminate your lenses, which could cause eye infections. The water could also cause you to dry your skin and feel irritated.

It is very import get your contact lenses safely and wear them properly, or else it may cause infection in addition to discomfort. It is not recommended to wash or rinse your eyes with lenses in the eye, but some tips and practices should help you keep them right. Never wear contact lenses while swimming or using a hot tub and follow all the do’s and don’ts of lens care will keep your eyes healthy, portions clear.
