A cataract is clouding or opacity of the lens inside the eye. It causes gradual blurring of vision and often glares. The Crystalline lens that is located inside the eye behind the iris, the colored part of the eye focuses light on the retina, which sends the image through the optic nerve to the brain.
Conversely, if the lens is clouded by a cataract, light is spreadin such a way that the lens can no longer focus it properly, resulting vision problems. Clouding of the lens occurs due to changes in the proteins and lens fibers.
There is no medicine to prevent or slow cataract progression. In age-related cataracts, changes in vision can be very gradual. Some may not initially recognize the visual changes. However, as cataracts worsen, vision symptoms increase.

What is Cornea?
Cornea is the transparent outermost layer of the human eye. Technically speaking, the cornea is not a single layer; it’s made of five delicate membranes that are arranged one below the other. Cornea plays a major role in focusing person’s vision. Cornea is transparent and spherical in shape which helps in refracting light from any object to create its image on retina thereby enabling us to see the object clear and sharp.
As per World Health Organization corneal blindness is the fourth leading cause of blindness in India.
The corneal surface and its structure are very delicate. Any injury or infection of the cornea can lead to damage leading to loss of corneal transparency and thereby disrupting the normal vision which might also lead to blindness.
Common problems that affect the cornea are corneal ulcers, keratitis (inflammation of the cornea) and keratoconus (thinning of the cornea) apart from the allergies, infections like herpes and the corneal abrasions caused by external injuries.
General symptoms observed are:
Inability to open eyes in bright light

Corneal Transplant: Treating corneal blindness is possible through corneal transplant. In this treatment, a healthy cornea is transplanted in place of a diseased cornea.

How vision is affected by Glaucoma:
Glaucoma involves loss of vision due to damage of the optic nerve. The optic nerve carries sight images to the brain and any damage to the nerve results in damage to sight. Since the optic nerve is the primary carrier of visual stimulus to the brain, damage to it could actually result in significant loss of vision. Glaucoma generally affects both the eyes, although the pressure inside each eye could be different. Certain level of pressure is needed for the eye to keep its shape and healthy but if the eye pressure gets too high, it squeezes the optic nerve and kills some of the nerve fibres, which leads to blindness. Observe your Child:
